Pet Flags are custom tags that you can assign to an individual pet's profile to easily highlight things like their medical needs, noteworthy behaviors, and other important details that your team members need to see at a glance. Where our Client Flags apply to all of the pets listed on their profile, our Pet Flags feature allows for further organization by letting you assign flags to specific pets so that staff members don't have to guess which pets they apply to and they get the exact information they need.
This is especially helpful for households with multiple pets, especially if they have different health or dietary needs. Instead of that critical information being hidden in the pet's profile notes or there being a chance that a Client Flag could be misinterpreted, Pet Flags make it so pet-specific information is readily available whenever you need it.

Creating Pet Flags
You can create new flags for pets in the Company Settings > Flags section of your Admin Dashboard. Pet Flags can be found at the bottom of the page, underneath the sections for your Client and Staff Flags. To add a new flag, select the blue Add Pet Flag button under the Pet Flags heading:
Note: Only Administrators can create, edit, reorder, or delete Pet Flags. Unlike Client and Staff flags, Pet Flags cannot be created directly from a pet's profile.
When adding a new Pet Flag, you can name the flag (limited to 24 characters), add a description (limited to 255 characters), and add an abbreviation (for when the screen size makes viewing the full flag name difficult; this is limited to three characters).
You can also choose which staff members can view the flag (by default, they are visible to everybody) and set what color you would like the flag to display as.
Note: Pet Flags are never visible to clients.
A Note About Pet Flag Visibility
Pet Flags use the same visibility options as Client and Staff Flags, though the terms you see may differ depending on which product you're using.
In-Home users will see the following options:
Staff, Office Managers, + Admin
Office Managers + Admin
Admin Only
Facility users, meanwhile, will see these options:
Techs/Runners, Schedulers, + Admin
Schedulers + Admin
Admin Only
Pro Tip: Pet Flags are most useful when the person holding the leash or doing the visits can see them. We recommend keeping handling and safety flags (like "Muzzle Required" or "Reactive") visible to everyone, and saving restricted visibility for internal notes only.
Editing And Deleting Pet Flags
Click on the Edit button to the right of any Pet Flag in the Company Settings > Flags section of your Admin Dashboard to update its name, description, abbreviation, visibility, or color. Your changes apply as soon as you make them and will be reflected everywhere the flag is shown in Time To Pet.
When you delete a Pet Flag, Time To Pet will show how many pets currently have that flag before you confirm its deletion. Once it's deleted, it will be removed from all of those pets immediately.
Reordering Pet Flags
Client and Staff Flags always appear alphabetically within their sections, but with Pet Flags, you can choose the order they appear in. That order is then used everywhere in Time To Pet that Pet Flags are shown. To update this order, select the Reorder Flags button that can be found under the Pet Flags heading:
Pro Tip: Put your most important safety flags at the top of the list. In busier views like the Scheduler, only the first few flags on each pet are shown before you will need to click a plus icon to view the rest, so a well-ordered list makes sure the most critical flags are always visible to your team.
Adding Flags To A Pet's Profile
You can add flags to a pet's profile by navigating to a client's profile, selecting the Pets tab, and looking for the Add Flag button on the pet that you want to add flags to:
When you click on the Add Flag button, a new screen will appear. Select one or more of the flags from the list and, when you're ready, click Save Flags:
To remove a flag from a pet's profile, click Edit on the Pet Flags section of a pet's profile, and click the "X' to the left of the flag, and click Save Flags once you're done:
Note: Each can have up to twenty flags assigned to them at one time. Once the limit has been hit, the Add Flags option is turned off until you remove one.
Viewing Pet Flags In Time To Pet
In Time To Pet, Pet Flags will always appear next to the pet they belong to, under a Pet Flags label, so that you never mistake them for Client or Staff Flags. Just like Client and Staff Flags, though, you can hover over (or click on) an abbreviation to see the flag's full name and description.
Where your team has to act on a flag right away, all of a pet's flags are shown, such as on a client's profile. In more compact views, up to three flags are shown per pet, followed by a plus icon that you can hover or click on it to see the remaining flags.
On A Client's Profile
Every pet that has been added to the Pets tab of a client's profile shows all of that specific pet's flags:
On Service Requests And When Scheduling Events
When reviewing Pending Requests or scheduling a new event for a client, each pet's flags are shown next to the pet's name:
Here is an example of what it looks like when scheduling an event:

On Front Desk Mode
Facility users can see a pet's flags when checking pets in and out while in Front Desk Mode:
On The Scheduler
When you click on an event on the Scheduler or viewing a client's Template, you can see the flags for each pet on the event info popup to the right of their name. Depending on the screen you're viewing them on, the numbers of flags applied to a pet, and the number of pets assigned to the event, not all of the flags may be visible. You can view the other flags by clicking on the plus icon:
Filtering By Pet Flags
Pet Flags can also help you filter and find information quickly with Time To Pet. Primarily, you can use them to filter clients and pets in three different areas:
Client List — filter to show only clients who have pets with specific flags
Visit History Reports — filter visits to find all services for pets with specific flags
Scheduler — filter events to see only services involving flagged pets
On The Scheduler
Once you've created at least one Pet Flag, you can filter your Scheduler by Pet Flag. Expand the Pet Flag filter and click the flags you'd like to filter by. Selected flags will appear with a checkmark to the left. To deselect a flag, simply click it again:
An event will show up on the calendar if any pet on the event has any of the selected Pet Flags. The Pet Flag filter works in tandem with the other Scheduler filters, so an event must also match those filters in order to be appear.
In Reports
You can filter Client Reports and the Visits report by Pet Flag under the Reporting section of the dashboard.
For the Client Reports, navigate to the Reporting > Staff/Users & Clients > Clients section of your account. Click Add Filter and select Clients With A Pet Flag:
From here, select the flags you'd like to filter by. Each client will only appear once in your results, no matter how many of their pets match your filters and the specific pets that matched the filters won't be shown. To see which pet it is, you will need to navigate to that client's Pets tab.
For the Visit Report, navigate to the Reporting > Schedule section of your account. Here, use the Pet Flags dropdown menu to pull up a list of visits with pets that match the chosen flags:
FAQs
Q: Do clients see Pet Flags?
No. Pet Flags are internal only. They never appear in the Client Portal, the Client App, emails, text messages, notifications, confirmations, visit reports, invoices, or service agreements.
Q: Who can create, edit, or delete Pet Flags?
Only Admins can manage the Pet Flags list in settings. For linked In-Home and Facility accounts, they must be an Admin in the company's primary account.
Q: Who can add or remove Pet Flags on a pet?
Any team member who can access the client's profile can add or remove the Pet Flags they're able to see. Every change is recorded in the client's History tab.
Q: Can I create a new Pet Flag from a pet's profile?
No. Pet Flags must be created in Settings > Company Settings > Flags first. This keeps your list consistent and avoids near-duplicates.
Q: Can I add Pet Flags from the Staff App?
Not at this time. Pet Flags can only be added and removed on the web dashboard.
Q: Can I add Pet Flags to many pets at once, or import them?
Not at this time. Pet Flags are added one pet at a time from the pet's profile.
Q: Can a Pet Flag have the same name as a Client or Staff Flag?
Yes. Pet Flags are a separate list, so a Pet Flag, Client Flag, and Staff Flag can all share a name. Within your Pet Flags, however, each name and abbreviation must be unique.
Q: Can I use Pet Flags to target email or message campaigns?
No. Pet Flags aren't available as a filter for messaging or email campaigns.
Q: If my business has linked In-Home and Facility accounts, how do Pet Flags work?
You have one Pet Flags list for both accounts. A flag created in either account is available in both. Pet Flags added to a pet show up on that pet in both accounts. Your Pet Flags list is managed by the Admins of your primary account (usually the account you signed up with first). Pet Flag visibility is based on your role in the account you're currently in.
Q: I've been using Client Flags for pet-specific details. Can I move them to Pet Flags?
Yes! Create a matching Pet Flag in Settings > Company Settings > Flags, then add the new Pet Flag to the correct pet on each client's Pets tab. You can then remove the old Client Flag from the client's profile, or delete it from settings once it's no longer needed.
